I was so ashamed and disappointed that those I trusted most could do this to me, so I did not see any reason for continuing to live. Growing up I went through female genital mutilation (FGM), which left me with severe physical and emotional trauma. I felt I deserved it and from that point stopped trusting people. As it was part of cultural malpractice we did not speak about it. When I was asked about it in my adult years I realized the impact it had on my life still. Especially the betrayal I felt in my heart, the miscarriages I had to go through and the other obstacles it placed on my marital life.

See how I realized I had to open up about my suppressed emotions and childhood trauma to my husband, my friends, and the professionals around me. This helped me feel like a woman again and allowed me to be the wife, mother, and woman that I wanted to be. My husband and I eventually managed to create a safe space where we could feel loved in the bedroom. Learn how I started prioritizing me-time and how I used music and delved into learning something new to nurture my self-worth.
