I was born in Kakuma and labeled stateless, which makes you feel you only belong where people want you to be. Growing up, I tended to my basic needs through selling a local brew, when I was molested by a customer. This experience forced me into adulthood very quickly, and my mind felt like it was drowning in thoughts while the weight of the burden grew into a mountain on my shoulders. On my journey of educating myself, I experienced further discrimination as a person labeled a “Refugee,” making me feel even lonelier while battling my past and current struggles.

See how I dared to open up to my academic sponsor, which allowed me to experience trust in people again. This helped me to open up and seek therapy for my childhood trauma. After realizing the power in vulnerability and speaking out, I engaged myself in several activities to help mentor young girls and raise awareness on gender-based violence. This helped me finish my university studies to start the next steps of my journey.

This is my story.
