My curious and playful childhood was ripped away from me when my father was abducted. The loss of his presence and love both as a father and as a provider for our family left us in a void. The worst part was not knowing where he was and being abused by society and government under the banner of the “War on Terror”. I felt there was no space to share my feelings and loss in the campaign work while focusing on getting my father back. After getting a lot of media attention, our family ended up in the forefront of a larger political uprising that placed us under pressure and expectations from other families that had lost people to abductions.

See how I managed to find space for my grief and start expressing my emotions. This allowed me to find strength in my vulnerability and regain my energy. Learn how I found support in both animals and humans around me, but also how I gained strength from transforming my grief into purpose: a purpose beyond the fight for my father, fighting for the freedom of us all.
