I felt that I overloaded myself with responsibilities at home, suffocating the space to grieve after losing my father at the age of 12. The following years, I tried to focus on performance and supporting my family, depriving me of a more playful and self-discovering teenage transition, following the process I felt was mirrored as the “correct” way by my traditional family and surrounding culture in Colombia. I continued repressing my feelings to the point where my body communicated through somatic health issues like ovarian cysts and asthma, leaving me both physically and emotionally drained to the point where I started feeling hopeless and lonely.

See how I decided to seek professional support at school through a group of psychologists and how this became the start of my healing journey. The therapy helped me to process my feelings through learning how to validate my experiences and to make space for my grief of losing my father, but also my lost teenage years, teaching me to manage life’s ups and downs in a healthier way, establishing a sense of self-worth regardless of my performances and allowing me to reconnect with my natural creative side and organic ambitions for myself and my career.

This is my story.
