I grew up on a small island as the first minority in my town. I always felt as though I was part of the community, but that perspective shattered when an adult labeled me as strange. I began expressing my masculinity through my style and came out as gay, but this only increased my feelings of exclusion. I felt trapped by the traditional norms and views on gender roles in my society to the point where I felt there was no space for me in this world.

See how meeting someone who truly saw and recognised me helped me to stand strong in my own self-worth and identity. Learn how moving to the diverse capital city and finding community where I could be my authentic self allowed me to build the life I had always wanted.
