While at church in Congo celebrating life, people suddenly stormed in and started shooting. You experience loved ones being lost in front of your eyes, and we had to escape. Since it was not safe to go back as the village was overtaken, we decided to leave our home and go to Kakuma, Kenya. After arriving I felt safe, but also trapped and helpless because you are just there, doing nothing, left alone with your thoughts of those whom you miss back home.

See how I managed to switch from French to English and learn other new skills at the training center in Kakuma to start my journey of building a new life. See how this helped me create relationships and friendships, which provided space and opportunities to build a career. I utilized my artistic talent as a painter to express my emotions. Once noticed by others, this allowed me to start working on supporting others to do the same, helping them process their traumas.

This is my story.
