I felt that no matter where I turned, I did not find a place where I belonged. As a third-culture kid coming back from Kenya to live in a predominantly white world re-triggered self-hate and deep sadness. Growing up, I experienced racism daily, and I ended up internalizing the anger because I didn’t want to show it, as I saw that as a sign of weakness. I felt extremely lonely in my experiences, and when the #BLM movement started, the global burden of racism weighed down on me to the point where I did not have the energy or motivation.

See how I started a journey to learn how to love myself again, starting with my hair. Once I allowed myself to have outlets for my suppressed emotions and anger through dance and arts, I rediscovered my creativity and passion. Learn how this helped me establish my form of activism with space for my cultures and experiences.
