Similar Lived Experiences

I was struggling to separate reality from illusions before I was hospitalized. I slipped into psychosis after losing several people close to me and getting my life threatened in a short period of time. On top of that, these traumatic experiences broke down my communication with those around me. This made me isolate myself and start self-harming in a desperate attempt to feel something in the numbness and hopelessness of it all. Eventually, I felt I deserved to be in pain and alone and that the world would be better off without me.

Learning how being hospitalized triggered me to take action and helped me see that everything I had experienced was connected. Coming out I started opening up and dared to challenge the stigma around me to feel less alone with my struggles. I reconnected with my music and used writing to express myself. See how I kept learning about mental health to start managing my grief and traumatic experiences and slowly rebuild my self-worth. Along my healing journey, I started using my story to help spread awareness about mental health.
