As a teenager I was picked on for being “too white” for an Afro-Carribean among my peers. This created large frustrations within me, that led me into outlets like fighting. My Mom encouraged me to contribute in the house and care for others, which added to the feeling of being different as a young man among my peers. See how it changed when I felt at home at a gender mixed college, where I found new friends for life.
